UFC London preview: Danny Roberts backing rivals Darren Till and Leon Edwards

UFC London is now officially upon us and there is a slew of British talent in action on Saturday night at the O2 Arena. Darren Till headlines alongside Jorge Masvidal, while fellow Brit Leon Edwards takes on Gunnar Nelson in the co-main event.

Welterweight Danny ‘Hot Chocolate’ Roberts is also on the fight card and shares his predictions with Metro.co.uk for a stacked main card.

Darren Till vs Jorge Masvidal

Masvidal is a very skilled opponent, very good all-round. Till is big and powerful. With this fight, Masvidal is so much more smaller so I feel if Till imposes his power and hits him with a couple of good shots early, then that will be the way he’ll win the fight. I feel he’ll finish the fight if he manages to get his size and power across early. Masvidal is known for scrapping. He’s very skilled and can throw shots from any angle. Both of these guys have it in them to stand up for three rounds, so for the fans I think they can expect to see a very, very good main event.

Leon Edwards vs Gunnar Nelson

This is a little bit of a crazy one. For me, Edwards’ been doing fantastic. He’s really climbed up the ranks despite the fact he’s had a hard time at points in his UFC career. He started off with a couple of losses, but he’s come back and gone from strength to strength. Nelson is known to be a technician and I think it’ll be a very technical fight, where we’ll see the fight going on everywhere from on the feet to on the ground. Edwards is riding a streak and mentally and physically, he’s in great shape, while Nelson can be hot and cold. I favour Edwards in this one, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we see some crazy stuff from Nelson.

Danny’s Fight to Watch: Volkan Oezdemir vs Dominick Reyes

This one isn’t going the distance. It’s an exciting fight for the fans. I’m going to go with my boy Oezdemir. He’s got a very tough opponent in Reyes. But it’ll be the fight to watch and potentially a fight of the night.

Nathaniel Wood vs Jose Alberto Quinonez

This fight is about Wood controlling his emotions. There’s fighting at home and then there’s fighting in your backyard. We talk about London, everyone knows I was born there but moved to Bristol and then lived in Liverpool. The pressure is on you at home and the pressure is on Wood here because he’s actually born and raised in London. He’s got a lot of hype behind him. He needs to remain calm and block out the crowd and do his thing. He is good, it’s just a matter of staying settled. I feel he’ll win this one on points. He might not want it to go the distance, but he’s got a decent guy in front of him in Quinonez.

Danny Roberts vs Claudio Silva

Other than Oezdemir-Reyes, this is definitely the fight to watch. I’m just going to say I’ll finish the guy. It won’t go three rounds, he’s going to get finished.

Jack Marshman vs John Phillips

I’m looking forward to this one a lot, it’s the perfect card to open the main card. I’ve seen both of these guys come up. We used to fight on Cage Warriors before we got to the UFC. I know Phillips’ skillset and where he likes to keep the fight. But I know Marshman too. I feel this fight is one for the UK fans and a hell of a one for the Welsh fans. These two are going to stand up throughout the entire fight, but I’m taking Marshman on points. He is durable and I think that’ll be what will prevail. Marshman might get hit with a couple of hard shots, but over the three rounds you’ll see a hell of a lot more from him than Phillips.
