WBC Clean Boxing: One positive, 11 negative, Canelo, Pacquiao pending

The World Boxing Council’s Clean Boxing Program has released its findings for January following a busy start to the year.

WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman made it one of his main goals to have a system implemented once voted in five years ago.

For the past couple of years, the CBP has grown and is a fully functioning part of the rankings.

Any fighter not enrolled faces removal from the Top 15. They would then miss out on a potential voluntary shot at the title.

Last month, 22 tests were carried out. Only one came back negative.

Marc Vidal’s January 3rd specimen returned an adverse finding for benzoylecgonine.

Announcing their results, the World Boxing Council stated: “The CBP Program is implementing a variety of necessary actions to keep the boxing community fully appraised about the activity of this unique and vital program.

“Its main objective, apart from conducting tests, is to educate athletes about the extreme dangers. Also, the considerable disadvantages that doping can cause.

“This is in addition to the penalties for positive tests detecting prohibited substances, inside or outside a competition.

“The program that has been planned, designed and developed with countless hours of hard work, expertise and dedication. Many dedicated members of the WBC and VADA are involved.

“Basically it`s divided into three main objectives categories:

– Prevention: To educate and advise boxers about the very real dangers of prohibited substances and the tragic effects leading to consequences they may bring about, short and long term. This is done through tutorials, seminars, and forums.

– Random tests out of competition

– Voluntary registration for fighters

During the month of January VADA carried out the following tests. This is the activity report:

Tests for some of the biggest names in the sport are due back from the lab in the coming weeks.

Canelo Alvarez, Manny Pacquiao and Adrien Broner are among them.

Rob Brant Defends Title In Dominant Performance Over Khasan Baysangurov

On Friday, February 15, 2019, Rob Brant (25-1, 17 KOs) put on an absolute clinic as he dominated Khasan Baysangurov (17-1, 7 KOs) and stopped him in the 11th round in his home state of Minnesota.

For Brant, it was the first defense of his WBA regular Middleweight title.

Brant got off to a quick start to begin the contest. He put his hand speed on display in the opening round. The second round showed his power as he knocked Baysangurov down with a right hand that clipped him on the side of the head.

Brant looked much more confident in the ring in comparison to his opponent. He also connected with the more eye-catching shots as well.

Baysangurov began to find a bit of success in the fifth round. Brant began to lunge in and paid the price as Baysangurov began to land a few good shots. That round however was about as much success as Baysangurov had as Brant boxed circles around him.

It seemed as though the champion was on his way to a clear decision victory. To Brant’s credit he wanted to put an exclamation point on his performance.

He did exactly that in the 11th. In what would end up being the final round, Brant let off a combination of punches that had his man badly hurt.

A few more punches followed and the challenger hit the deck. It seemed over, but somehow he managed to get to his feet. Brant wasted little time jumping back on his opponent. A right hand by the champion staggered Baysangurov to the ropes and the referee stepped in to stop the contest.

It was a terrific performance by Brant who fought like a man who wanted to prove he belongs among the elite of the Middleweight division. If he continues to string together performances like this, then he will make a strong case to be ranked higher among his peers.

Billel Dib eyes Andrew Cancio ahead of March 30 collision

World rated Super Featherweight Billel “Baby Face” Dib (22 wins – 3 loss) will return to the ring on March 30 at the Seagulls Stadium in Tweeds Heads, NSW Australia.

Dib is the current WBA Oceania Super Featherweight Champion and World number 10.

“I’m fighting Rey Juntilla (23 wins – 8 loss) from the Phillipines. I haven’t really watched much footage on him at this stage. I have faith in my abilities as well as my management team in Tony Tolj and my dad and who they put in front of me. I’ve been told he’s durable and will give me the rounds I need to keep moving up the ranks.” – States Dib

Dib will fight for the second time under World renowned trainer of Champions Angelo “H” Hyder of Australia. Hyder known for being the head trainer of Danny Green and Vic Darchinyan and the chief second of WBA Fighter of the decade Chris “The Dragon” John

“I love every minute of training with Angelo. Not only is he a good man, but his knowledge is unbelievable. He isn’t a trainer, he is a teacher and that’s what is lacking in modern boxing. Im learning more and every every day, you can never stop learning in this game and I’m only getting better.”

“Baby Face” has endured a brutal training regime to get his opportunity of boxing immortality by edging close to a World title shot.

Just like my last camp, training has been second to none. Sparring is great, we have great sparring in our team, Moloney twins, (Jason and Andrew Moloney) Bruno Vifuaviwili (Tanzanian) and also our new team mate Furkan who is going to do big things in the sport. I’m working hard day in and day out to become world champion.

It’s an honour to be apart of the WBA, the WBA has been around since the days of Muhammad Ali, when I’m crowned WBA world champion God willing, my name will be up there with the greats”

Dib gives his thoughts on the newly crowned WBA Super Featherweight Champion Andrew Cancio

“Cancio shocked me like he shocked the rest of the world. I think it’s time for Machado to move up a weight division. Cancio (📷Hogan Photos) looked great but if he wants to keep that belt he needs to stay far away from me.”

Manager Tony Tolj gave his take on the March 30 Promotion and his plans for Dib going forward. “We have a great card full of WBA title fights that include WBA World #3 Jason “The Smooth” One defending his WBA Oceania Title and “The Captain Kerry Foley contesting WBA & WBC regional titles in our block buster card as well as a stacked undercard as part of our Boxing Mania 5 event.

“It’s going to be a massive event, and Billel Dib is looking like a new fighter he has elevated in ring knowledge and dedication to new level and I’m confident on him making a statement on March 30 and Andrew Cancio and the WBA Super Featherweight, don’t let the “Baby Face” fool you, this man is ready!”

Marcos Hernandez talks forthcoming bout on Dirrell v Yildirim

Once-beaten contender “Mad Man” Marcos Hernandez will look to continue his winning streak from “The Contender Season Five”, when he rematches Jeison Rosario live on FS1 and FOX Deportes Saturday, February 23 from the Armory in Minneapolis and presented by Premier Boxing Champions.

Coverage on FS1 and FOX Deportes begins live at 10 p.m. ET/ 7 p.m. PT and is headlined by former WBC super-middleweight champion Anthony Dirrell facing Avni Yildirim for the vacant WBC Super Middleweight Championship.

The 25-year-old from Fresno, California is looking to continue his journey to a world title as he has beaten four well-regarded prospects in only fifteen fights. Hernandez is currently training with Henry Ramirez in Riverside, California, and looking forward to his rematch with Rosario, who he fought to a draw last February in Texas.

Tickets for the event, which is promoted by Warriors Boxing and TGB Promotions, are on sale now, and can be purchased at the Armory at and through Ticketmaster.

Here is what Hernandez had to say about his upcoming matchup and more:

On his rematch against Jeison Rosario:
“I fought Jeison Rosario almost one year ago exactly. I have a lot of respect for him because we fought to a draw, but that being said, I felt I got the better of him. This not a six-round bout like our first match, this is a ten-round fight, and I know what needs to be done to further my career with my performance in this fight.”

On his recent training camp:
“I really like training with Henry Ramirez in Riverside, California. Henry is a cool guy who’s trained a lot of top fighters and knows what it takes to get the job done. In Fresno there were many distractions, so moving away from my family, my wife and kids, it is a sacrifice that I make to go to the next level. This is a job and I treat it like a job. I am doing everything possible to be a contender.”

On fighting on this PBC event on FS1 and FOX Deportes:
“I’m very excited as this is my third time on FS1. I love what Premier Boxing Champions is doing for the sport of boxing, bringing fights to network television. FS1 has been good to me and I am excited that one of my biggest wins will be on FS1 so everyone can watch it.”

On his goals for 2019:
“I want to stay active, but my focus is solely on Rosario and getting that win. My hopes are to get in with a fighter with a big name. I’ve fought a lot of tough fighters, but not a lot of big-name fighters yet. I am hoping that by the end of this year I can fight one of those fighters’ people have seen on television for years.”

Fan responses to the Joshua v Miller announcement have been brutal

Anthony Joshua finally announced his next move this week as the four-belt heavyweight ruler heads stateside to fight Jarrell Miller.

In one of the most long-awaited moves in UK boxing, Joshua is finally ready to dip his toes into the American market.

On June 1, Joshua will take a bite out of the ‘Big Apple’ when he defends his belts against Miller at Madison Square Garden.

Promoters at Matchroom and streamers DAZN are already in the midst of doing the groundwork to secure a sell-out.

Whilst Sky Sports Box Office are to broadcast the fight on British shores in the early hours of the morning.

Upon making the confirmation though, some fans chose to use the social media platform to protest the fight completely.

Others made it clear they don’t think UK punters should have to fork out almost £20 for a clash taking place potentially at around 3am.

Looking through the responses, the vast majority were negative towards Joshua v Miller.

To the Matchroom confirmation:

The least anticipated fight ever.

AJ 1st round KO. Number 1 bulls***

“We wont have to go to the United States anymore, everyone will have to come and fight us here” hmmmmmm…suuuurrreeee.

But wheres the fights that the fans want? FURY, WILDER? More will watch a rematch with Fury and Wilder, too many fans getting fed up with the circus and the obvious avoidance of the better fighters.

And fact that every single fight is PPV – got bored with it a long time ago.

Wouldn’t go to America to fight Wilder but will go to America to fight Miller.

Mugging the British fans here surly you should do this on sky sports and not box office to say it could be his first and only fight in U.S

100% will not watching this walkover

Shocker of a fight.

To the Sky Sports Box Office announcement:

First time in 10 years i will be looking at teletext to see the result

There’s no wonder people are resorting to illegal streaming sites. £20 for a 4am fight against a guy who’s only got the fight because he’s American!

Better be one hell of an undercard considering the circumstances.

Surely this nonsense isn’t gonna be pay-per-view?

I can honestly say I will not be paying for this! What a bum fight. Surely if your that confident of winning a fight then agree a winner takes all v wilder or fury. 1st AJ fight I’m not bothered about.

More excited about next episode of eastenders.

To Eddie Hearn:

I won’t even stream this illegally it’s that much of a farce.

Absolute stinker of a fight.

Money Snatching Git?

I pay £80 a month for sky, no danger I’ll be forking out another £20 to watch an out of shape 30 stone heavyweight get sparked in about 3 rounds!

Could be in my back garden Eddie and I’d close the curtains… Stop robbing the public and ruining the sport with lies.

I only came to see Hearn get roasted in the comments, they didn’t disappoint.

Wembley sales have dropped since Klitschko through to Povetkin so don’t wanna be seen to only sell out half the stadium this time. No risk in moving it to America and attempting to crack the market there which is smart, however AJ and Matchrooms UK bubble has finally burst.

The fight nobody wanted. Well done Eddie.

Embarrassing Eddie.

Cheating the fans. Lucky this fight is at MSG, the honeymoon period is well over and your not filling Wembley with the likes of Miller. Give the fans the fights they want. AJ slipping down the pecking. Fury & Whyte giving better value for money.

Those mentioned are just from the first scroll of the Twitter feed. Around one in ten were positive with the rest in the same vein.

It’s obvious the fans aren’t happy and won’t be until a bigger name is secured.

But whilst Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury continue their saga, there’s not much Joshua or Hearn can do.

Any slight slip-ups against Miller will now result in an even bigger backlash. Joshua has to win and he has to win well on June 1.

The turnaround in the perception of Joshua since the Wladimir Klitschko, and even Joseph Parker fight has been astonishing.

Joshua is now under immense pressure to excite the US audience. And in the process, keep his hopes of facing the winner of Wilder v Fury alive.

In stark contrast, Miller has nothing to lose and everything to gain.
