Up to 100 Nations expected at IFMA Muay Thai World Championships 2019

Registration open for IFMA World Championships 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand

This year IFMA World Championships is held from July 18 to July 28 in Bangkok. The event marks the return of premier Muay Thai competition to its birth place, Thailand.

The registration for the event is now open. Up to 100 countries are “expected to arrive in Bangkok to compete for the title of planet’s best athlete in different weight divisions,” International Federation of Muaythai Amateur announced.

Held in honor of birthday celebration of His Majesty the King of Thailand, IFMA Worlds 2019 goes under the slogan of “Muaythai is Coming Home”. Last year the competition took in Mexico, following Belarus, Sweden, Malaysia, Russia and Uzbekistan (respectively).

Arafura Games 2019 opens the official Muay Thai programme for 2019. The competitions takes place in Darwin, Australia from April 25 to May 4. The winners (in selected weight classes) earn the ticket to partake in The World Games 2021 in Birmingham, USA.

Muay Thai featured on the 2020 Asian Beach Games programme

Muay Thai earned one more stage for its practitioners to showcase their skills and battle it out for medals. “The Art of Eight Limbs” has been included in the 2020 Asian Beach Games. The event is held from November 28 to December 5 in Sanya, China with over 5,000 athletes expected to participate.

“Many important decisions have been made at the Olympic Council of Asia General Assemble last weekend in Bangkok. One was in favour of Muay Thai to be included on the official sport programme of the Asian Beach Games 2020 in Sanya, China,” International Federation of Muaythai Amateur reported.

“Sanya is the southernmost city on Hainan Island and is nicknamed “China’s Florida” due to the tropical climate. It has emerged as a popular tourist destination and also serves as the training base of the Chinese national beach volleyball team. Sanya officials promised the OCA that the pearl of the South China Sea is ready to shine when it hosts the sixth edition of the Asian Beach Games,” reads the announcement.

Sanya is also a well-known place accommodating combat sports events. A number of the “Kunlun Fight” kickboxing promotions were held in the city over the years featuring the likes of famed fighters Buakaw Banchamek and Yodsanklai Fairtex.

Muay Thai Week attracts over 100,000 people

Muaythai Week closes with a big bang, IFMA

Seven days of festivities and over 100,000 visitors came to an end in a beautiful closing ceremony involving 150+ performers, International Federation of Muaythai Amateur reported. It was a week of ancient traditions, heroes came alive, as festival goers were transported back for 300 years, transforming the sport complex at the Sport Authority of Thailand into a beautiful festival ground. The cooperation between the Royal Thai Government, the WMC, AMTAT, IFMA and others paid off as so much positive news has emerged, and “Wan Muaythai 2020” is already in planning.

Over 500 VIPs came to the closing ceremony, led by the World Muaythai Council and IFMA Presidents, celebrating the life and achievements of King Prachao Sua with a special candle ceremony held in honour of HM King Rama 10th.

It was a week of conferences, forums, performances, competitions, executive and commission meetings, the muaythai world coming together to plan upcoming events and activities, showcasing why muaythai is one of the fastest growing martial arts in the world and why IFMA is rightfully the sole federation recognised by the International Olympic Committee. IFMA will continue to play its important role in protecting and fostering the cultural elements of the sport while at the same time develop towards the future, the next 300 years have just begun.

The first major sporting event of the year is Arafura Games 2019 held in Darwin, Australia from 26 April to 2 May. The competition launching qualifications for The World Games 2021.
