Marcelo Barreira vs. Dakota Cochrane headlines M-1 Global return to the US

Road to M-1: USA 2 on UFC Fight Pass

Russia-based promotion M-1 Global returns to the United States on April 5 (AEDT). MMA event takes place at Pipa Event Center in Winterhaven, California presenting the inaugural show on UFC Fight Pass. Top of the bill features a middleweight battle between Brazilian Marcelo Barreira (17-4) and the representative of the country-host Dakota Cochrane (31-12).

“The 34-year-old Barreira, who fights out of Argentina, is a jiu-jitsu specialist with 12 of his career wins coming by way of submission. Cochrane, 32, has fought in numerous organizations, including Bellator, and last November he knocked out former UFC welterweight champion Jonny Hendricks in the second round of their bare-knuckles fight,” reads the announcement sent out on Thursday.

In the co-main event Travis Wiuff (75-22) takes on Josue Lugo, Jr. (8-3) at heavyweight.

“Wiuff, of Minnesota, has been a pro MMA fighter since 2001 having fought in the UFC, PRIDE and Bellator, among the more notables. Salinas, California’s upset-minded Lugo is stepping up in class to fight Wiuff and he’ll need to live-up to his nickname to defeat his much more experienced opponent.”

Also on the card Travis Fulton (254-54) brings to the table over 300 bouts when he takes on fellow-veteran Shannon Ritch (57-84) in a “Heavyweight Super-Fight”. He holds “the all-time record for most sanctioned MMA fights”, as well as being pro-boxer. Since 1996 Fulton competed in the UFC, WEC and Puncrase.

Three additional amateur matchups are expected to be added to the card. The current lineup for “Road to M-1: USA 2” can be found below.

Two titles on the line at M-1 Challenge 101 Almaty

M-1 Global Kazakhstan

M-1 Challenge 101 is held on March 30 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. MMA event features a pair of championship bouts with Shavkat Rakhmonov (10-0) facing off Danila Prikaza (11-2-1) for the vacant welterweight title, and Khadis Ibragimov (7-0) defending his light heavyweight belt against Rafal “Kijana” Kijanczuk (7-0).

Fighting at home, the 24-year-old Rakhmonov will certainly be the crowd favorite (via announcement sent out Saturday). He has finished off all 10 of his opponents, half by knockout and the remainder by submission, during his 3/1/2-year pro career. His last M-1 fight was a year ago, when he defeated Levan Solodovnik by way of a second-round submission (triangle choke).

Prikaza has won his last five fights in a row, three by sensational knockout, including his most recent action, last December at M-1 Challenge: Battle in Atyrau, stopping Eduardo Roman in round two.

Ibragimov captured his coveted light heavyweight title last August using a rear-naked choke to submit Dimitriy Mikutsa in the second round.

Polish invader Kijanczuk is a powerful puncher who has stopped all seven of his opponents to date. He is coming off an impressive opening-round demolition of Giga Kukhalashvili last December.

M-1 Global returns to the United States with inaugural event on UFC Fight Pass

Road to M-1: USA 2

Russian MMA promotion M-1 Global announced its return to the United States, presenting “Road to M-1: USA 2” on April 5 (AEDT), at Quechan Casino Resort, located on the California-Arizona border. The fight show is scheduled on UFC Fight Pass in the inaugural event of a new agreement between M-1 Global USA and Fight Pass.

Many of the top American MMA prospects will step into The Rage for the first time to demonstrate their fighting skills and courage. A possible M-1 Global contract will be on the line in these fights, much like at Road to M-1: USA 1, last August in Nashville, Tennessee, reads the announcement sent out on Tuesday.

Brandon Bell and Yoislandy Izquierdo turned in impressive performances at Road to M-1: USA 1 and they were both rewarded with M-1 Global promotional contracts.

“On April 4th we are going to have not only the second Road to M-1 USA show,” M-1 Global president Vadim Finkelchtein said, “but also the third M-1 Global show in California. Eight years ago, in 2011, we held two M-1 Challenge events in California and one in Arizona. We are excited to come back to this region with another show, which will be held on the border between these two states at Quechan Casino Resort.

“All the fights we saw at the first Road to M-1: USA were very interesting, and we look forward to watching the best American prospects in The Rage.”

The main event and other fights on the Road to M-1: USA 2 are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
